Jets In Means Moose Out

With the recent buzz about the Phoenix Coyotes returning to their previous city as the Winnipeg Jets, it would mean changes for the Manitoba Moose, a team that may be history here if the Jets make a return to Winnipeg, last here in 1996.

It’s 18-year-old Jolene Chevalier’s first Manitoba Moose game ever and a spur of the moment outing on a Tuesday night with her boyfriend, Roger Rheault, 25. Their $33 tickets got them 2^nd row seats at the American Hockey League (AHL) game where the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Manitoba Moose 2-0.

Chevalier, a student, says she has zero expectations about the game because she has never been to one.

It couldn’t be different for boyfriend, Rheault, owner of Roger Rheault Trucking Company. He loves hockey and says he’s a huge fan of the National Hockey League (NHL).

“It would be awesome if a team, especially as good as the Coyote’s, came to Winnipeg,” says Rheault. But he is realistic, “The games would probably hurt the wallet more than the Moose.”

The added expense of going to NHL games, compared to AHL games, might hurt a bit but it wouldn’t stop Rheault and his friends from going, he says. He would buy more tickets to games if the Jets were here, but still not season tickets, but says he certainly would not miss a playoff game.

Rheault ends the conversation saying, “The Jets were ours in the first place.”

A fact that some Winnipeggers seem like they don’t want to forget, as it’s not uncommon to see Jets’ jerseys in the stands at Moose games.

Before Chevalier has a chance to answer whether she would go to Jets’ games, boyfriend, Rheault, interrupts, “Yeah, of course we would.”

Stacie Wiebe, 22, would be at more games if the Jets were back in Winnipeg too. The account assistant used to go to at least three Jets’ games a year when they were here. Wiebe also says her whole family used to go to a game together every year as a tradition. Her family did this at Jets’ games for as long as she can remember.

Wiebe ads she would pay extra money to go to a Jets game compared to a Moose game.
