Jeopardy; Man Vs Machine
"Jeopardy!" got it's best ratings in six seasons this week as past champions like, Ken Jennings, a 74-day champion, took on a computer named "Watson." (Named after the inventor of IBM, Thomas Watson) But people make computers, aren't people smarter?
Well, apparently NOT! Watson blew the humans out of the water! Despite having one bobble, discussed lower, he took the humans to school. Watson finished the three day challenge with $77,147. Jennings finished with only $24,000 after three days.
First of all, couldn't a computer just "Google" everything? Google finds the answer in like 0.36 seconds...
Watson isn't perfect though, as NeonTommy.com says, "However, just like a human being, Watson was not without its hesitancy and mistakes. When Watson missed the final Jeopardy question on the second day, the audience gasped and expressed genuine disbelief. The clue, which was “this city's largest airport is named for a World War II hero, and its 2nd largest is named for a World War II battle,” made Watson the only contestant ever in the history of the show to miss a question in the U.S Cities category."
Watson only bet $947 though (lol, I guess he was playing it safe?).
BUT, the interesting thing is, Jeopardy already gives you the answer, and you have to come up with the question! "What is your mother Trebek?" (SNL).
Another thing, some of the "answers," or clues, on Jeopardy are a play-on-words, or they are little cute puns, that Alex emphasizes oh so genuinely.
Advantage humans. If there is one thing computers suck at, it's having fun.
When you plug in your computer at home, has it ever said anything fun, like, "Thanks for turning me on?"
Probably not, computers suck without humans. There all like, "101101001", and we're all like, "Hurry up and load you piece of crap!"
All in all, Suck it Trebek!
Ps. Jeopardy would get even higher ratings if it was Sean Connery from SNL Vs Watson, and all the categories were "An Album Cover."
